Thanks to everyone for such a great season this year! Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and visit the highlights of the season…
Our new attraction for 2010 was a hit. We renovated one of the buildings on Celebration Street to the Star Theatre. We featured the musical review, Beat Street. The five performers sang and danced to songs from the 60’s, 70’s, and beyond. It was a great addition to the park and provided guests with air conditioned comfort. Look for a new act or two for the 2011 season!
Alabama Adventure also hosted several events to add excitement and get the involved in the community. We hosted charity events such as the Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama Duck Regatta, Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Run 4 Wishes, the kickoff for the Law Enforcement Torch Run. We also had a music festival that hosted choral groups and bands from schools throughout the region.
The Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama had a duck regatta in the Warrior River with 10,000 yellow rubber ducks. The winners took home cash and other prices.
Make-A-Wish Foundation hosted a 5K through Alabama Adventure. There were about 120 runners. They enjoyed donuts and a day at the park after their early morning run to help grant kid’s wishes.
The First Financial Bank Concert Series made the 2010 season even more fun. It kicked off with the Charlie Daniels Band. This was probably the largest crowd of the season.
Mitchell Musso came out on Father’s Day Weekend and had Josh Golden open for him. Both artists had tons of fans out to see them. After their show, the guys and their bands hung out in the park and enjoyed the Rampage and Stratus Fear Screamer.
Our first Christian Concert Day featured the cross over band, Relient K. Their Contemporary Christian Music was a hit with the fans. Youth groups from around the state came out to enjoy a day of fun in the water park and the theme park and a night full of worship and fellowship.
The 2009 American Idol, Kris Allen came out to Alabama Adventure on July 17. He enjoyed riding the Rampage and Zoomarang… IN THE RAIN!!! After the floods came, everyone got to see a great show. He even sang Happy Birthday to one of his band members.
Grammy nominee, Colbie Caillat graced the Coca-Cola Amphitheatre next. She sang hit songs, Bubbly, Realize, and The Little Things. She also introduced Alabama to her newest album, Breakthrough.
Boys Like Girls rocked Alabama Adventure with their hit song, Love Drunk. The crowd really got into their music. Their lead singer, Martin was all over the stage, jumping off speakers and getting the crowd involved.
The other Christian Concert Day featured the pop rock world sensation, Newsboys. After touring in Europe, they returned to the USA with a great show at Alabama Adventure. Michael Tait wrapped up the show with DC Talk’s hit song, Jesus Freak.
Alabama Adventure enjoyed some of the same traditions from prior seasons, such as Military Appreciation Weekend (Memorial Day weekend), Fiesta de la Aventura, 4th of July fireworks, Brew, Blues, & BBQ, and Kid’s Fest. Kid’s Fest featured SpongeBob Square Pants in the Star Theatre. He was a big splash for all the kid’s as they were getting ready to go back to school.
We also started a new tradition with Miracle Makers Weekend. This was a weekend of fun, music, and caring on Labor Day weekend. Saturday featured Josh Golden with local act, JUICE. Josh also recorded his first music video that weekend.
Rodney Atkins performed Sunday bringing out all the “Farmer’s Daughters.” All of our guests really enjoyed him and his family atmosphere.
The park was able to say “Thank you!” to the community by donating a portion of all tickets sold to Children’s Hospital of Alabama. We raised almost $12,000 that weekend!!
A big “Thank you” goes out to everyone that made the 2010 season a success, including our guests, partners, sponsors, and employees. We appreciate everyone’s help and look forward to a great 2011 season.
